The Penguin Hand Print Craft is a general arts and craft project designed for children with upper extremity and learning disabilities to work on fine motor skills.

Technical Specifications:

Step One: Gather materials.

  • White paint
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue sticks
  • Blue paper
  • Yellow paper
  • Black paper
  • Paper plate

Step Two: Pour a blob of paint onto the paper plate and spread it out around the center of the paper plate. Have the child press their hand in the white paint. Help the kids carefully dip their hand into the paint.

Step Three: Have the child press their white hand print down upside down on the Black paper to begin the penguin hand print craft. Have the child hold all their fingers together as they stamp their hand print onto the black paper.

Step Four: Let dry.

Step Five: Gather all of the pieces needed to make a penguin hand print. Cut out two legs, a beak, and two wings from yellow and black paper.

Step Six: Once the hand print is dry, cut an oval shape out around the hand to complete the penguin’s body.

Step Seven: Glue the beak, feet, wings, and eyes to the penguin. Glue the penguin’s body to another piece of paper to secure it.

Step Eight: Make sure each child writes their name on their hand print penguin so you know which penguin hand print belongs to which child, if done in a group setting.
