Duplo Consonant Blend Activity

The Duplo Consonant Blend Activity is a do it yourself activity with Duplos, the larger versions of LEGOs, designed for children with language learning and speech disabilities to do. Teaches the child words with common blends.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather materials.

  • Dry erase markers.
  • Duplo Set.
  • flat surface.
  • timer (a watch or timer will do).
  • sensory bin (optional).

Step Two: Decide on what blends the user wants to work on.

Step Three: Write 1 letter on each duplo and place them on the table.

Step Four: Tell the student the rules: They will have to create a blend by putting 2 Duplos together and they have 1 minute to see how many they can create. The Arctic Worksheets (or blends list that the teacher has created) will be their guide.

Step Five: Set the timer and watch the student figure out each blend.

Step Six: Once the time is up, ask them to read aloud each blend they have created.
