DigicCom 2000, models 34, 70, 106 and 142, is a direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with communication disabilities. This communication aid allows the user to create up to 142 minutes of digital voice recordings and play back the messages. Messages can range from single words to sentences and paragraphs. The device has a touch panel with adjustable sensitivity to accommodate different motor needs. It is also possible to transfer and copy messages and functions from one key to another, without re-recording or re-programming them. Voice messages can be saved by copying them to a floppy disk using an optional disk drive. Thus, a library of messages can be built for the user to accommodate different situations. The device's built-in electronic display provides step-by-step instructions and guidance during the programming process. It also allows the user to review and edit previously programmed sequences. Messages can also be lengthened on any key without having to re-program the entire level. The device comes with a set of 18 overlays, some pre-printed and some blank. Layouts vary from 1 x 2 (2 keys) to 4 x 12 (48 keys). The blank overlays can be copied and customized with any combination of symbols, letters, or handwritten messages. Programmable enter, exit, and hold-down times aid in direct selection, while enhanced visual and verbal cues aid in scannning with a visual or auditory scanner. Sequence prediction aids users in remembering symbol sequences. The device has an LCD (liquid crystal display) screen. There is a sound input port for use with an external microphone; sound output ports for an external speaker and earphones; two switch input ports for standard external switches (a joystick port and a 9-pin din D connector for 4 direction and push-button switches); a serial -port for future applications; and a disk drive port for use with an external disk drive. The device comes with a charger, 18 blank overlays in all key layouts, a shoulder strap, and an instruction manual. POWER: Uses a rechargeable nickle metal hydride battery. OPTIONS: Versions with 34, 70, 106, or 142 minutes of recording time; disk drive; keyguard; carrying case. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 1.875 x 7.5 x 10.75 inches; touch panel measures 9.12 x 4.1 inches. WEIGHT: 2.7 pounds.
