Shannen Doherty plans to live ‘another 10 or 15 years’ amid breast cancer battle

The New York Daily News - 9/29/2020

Shannen Doherty is maintaining a positive outlook amid her fight with stage 4 breast cancer.

The former "Beverly Hills 90210\u2033 star told Elle in an interview out Tuesday that she has “a lot of life in me” after revealing earlier this year that she’d experienced a recurrence of breast cancer.

“I feel like I’m a very, very healthy human being," Dohety told the magazine. "It’s hard to wrap up your affairs when you feel like you’re going to live another 10 or 15 years.”

Doherty, 49, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In 2017, the actress said the cancer was in remission.

Her announcement that the cancer had returned came this past February, with Doherty telling “Good Morning America” at the time that she decided to share the news herself after keeping it private for a year.

She told Elle she makes an effort to “treasure all the small moments that most people don’t really see or take for granted.”

“The small things are magnified for me," Doherty continued. "We have this endless well within us, and it’s just about continuing to dig in that well for the strength to face adversity -- and so that we can also see all the beauty.”

Doherty rose to widespread fame playing Brenda on “Beverly Hills 90210” for four seasons, before leaving the cast in 1994. She joined the supernatural series “Charmed” in 1998 and remained on that show for three seasons.

The actress said in the new interview that she wants her husband to know how important he is to her, and has things she wants to tell her mother, too. She’s considered making videos for loved ones to view after she’s gone.

“But whenever it comes time for me to do it, it feels so final," Doherty told Elle. “It feels like you’re signing off, and I’m not signing off.”
