Healthy living expo coming to Willimantic this week

Aug. 9—WILLIMANTIC — Generations Family Health Center is holding an event Wednesday that is designed to help older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers.

The " Healthy Aging, Healthy Living Expo" is being held from 9 a. m. to noon outside the center, which is at 40 Mansfield Ave.

It is free and open to the public.

The rain date for the event, which is being held by the Ossen Medicare Outreach, Education and Advocacy Team, is on Thursday.

" This is the type of event I wish I had attended when my mother had dementia and I was caring for her," Generations Family Health Center Director of Communications Allison Heneghan, one of the event organizers, said in a press release. " Knowing about all these different resources and programs available in my area would have helped make my life and my mom's easier during a difficult time."

Thirty- six vendors will be at the expo with information about various topics, including lifestyle tips, aging resources, wellness materials, resources for caregivers, and conducting screenings. Attendees will receive free giveaways and be entered to win door prizes.

Healthy snacks and water will be available for free.

The Ossen Medicare Outreach, Education and Advocacy Team is composed of representatives from various community partners, including: Center for Medicare Advocacy; U. S. Rep. Joseph Courtney, D-2nd district; Sen. Chris Murphy, D- Conn.; Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D- Conn.; Connecticut Community Care; Generations Family Health Center; Mansfield Senior Center; Senior Resources Agency on Aging; Windham Senior Center and Windham Area Interfaith Ministry.

The following organizations sponsored the event; WILI/ 98.3 and Hall Communications; The Chronicle; Community Health Network of Connecticut, Inc.; Medical Pharmacy, WINY 1350 AM & 97.1 FM; Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut; Lester E.
