BU public talks resume next week

The Brandon Sun - 1/11/2020

It’s a new year and that means new public talks put on by Brandon University.

The university will be putting on three monthly talks from January through March.

On Jan. 16, Patty Douglas from BU’s education faculty will give a talk titled “How a Digital Storytelling Project is Changing Minds About the Problem of Autism in Schools.”

Feb. 13 will see Jane Karpa of the faculty of psychiatric nursing speak on the subject “An Odyssey: Families’ Experiences Living with Acquired Brain Injury.”

March 13 features Steve Robinson of the philosophy department and Elisabeth Saftiuk of the Brandon Downtown Development Corporation giving a joint talk called “People Living and Working Together: Jane Jacobs on City Planning and Ethics.”

All these talks begin at 7 p.m. in the library’s program room. January’s talk will have free refreshments provided by Benny’s Restaurant, February’s will be catered by Sabor Latino and March’s will have food from Komfort Kitchen.

“It’s a thrill to bring BU’s ongoing research off-campus and into the community, and the Brandon Public Library have been incredible partners,” said BU political science professor and organizer Rick Baker. “So much of the research being done here is sparked by local concerns and local issues, and the audiences so far have really reflected that.”
