Virtual 5K to benefit Ability Partners Foundation

Daily Messenger - 10/15/2020

Ability Partners Foundation will host its 15th annual 5K Run for Fun/1M Walk for Wellness during the weekend of Oct. 17. This is the first time this event will be completely virtual.

This year’s run ambassador is Jason “J-Mac" McElwain, a strength and conditioning coach and teacher's aide in Greece. McElwain, often recognized for his 20-point basketball game in 2006, is an autism advocate and previously completed the Rochester Marathon and Boston Marathon.

The race starts at 8 a.m.Oct. 17 with a kickoff video on the CP Rochester, Happiness House and Rochester Rehabilitation Facebook pages.

Runners, walkers, rollers and strollers can choose when they race and where they race throughout the weekend. Times and mileage will be monitored through a phone app, Strava, and prizes will go to the top winners. Racers can join the race’s club upon registration, where they can see and encourage other racers.

This family-friendly event ends at 8 p.m.Oct. 18 with a cool-down video on Facebook. Racers are asked to share pictures, videos and their route through #RaceWithAPF for a chance to be featured on APF’s social media and web pages, as well as either video.

Runners, walkers and rollers can visit bit.ly/36CvGp7 to register. The $25 registration fee provides access into the Strava club and an APF face mask. Proceeds from the 5K Run for Fun/1M Walk for Wellness benefit APF.
