A bond that can never be broken: Sister starts GoFundMe to help wheelchair-confined brother

Star-News - 2/7/2021

Feb. 7—Hannah Corbin, 21, caretaker to her brother, Jaden Corbin, who has cerebral palsy, is starting a GoFundMe page to obtain an adapted minivan in order for Jaden to receive an electric wheelchair.

Hannah recalls the day her brother, Jaden was born.

"Jaden was born on Mother's Day in 2002, from the time he was born we had an unbreakable bond. What should have been the greatest day ever turned into the scariest day for a child. My mom's placenta had ruptured which caused loss of oxygen to the brain and my brother was born having seizures."

Jaden was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 6 months of age. Jaden is nonverbal and confined to a wheelchair. Now at age 18, Jaden loves being around people and doing normal everyday activities, but it is harder each day just to get him out of the house.

Jaden is finally approved for the services he needs to receive an electric wheelchair. Unfortunately, in order to get the wheelchair, he needs to have a vehicle that can transport it and there are certain standards the vehicle must meet before it can be converted.

Their single mother also has another 11-year-old son, and she does not have the means to buy a vehicle on her own.

To donate to "Transportation for Jaden," visit gofundme.com. As of Friday, the campaign had raised $380 of its $10,000 goal.

Kali Sanders, an Early Childhood teacher at Pender County schools, has been Jaden's teacher for five years. She said, "Jaden loves to be around his classmates and friends. Getting this electric wheelchair will allow him to be independent and go places on his own."
