Journal Inquirer - 3/1/2021

Mar. 1—TOLLAND — Two developmental psychologists will host a free virtual workshop Wednesday to discuss an educational model they designed for autistic individuals.

The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. and is being offered through the Tolland Public Schools.

Dr. Amy Laurent, co-author of the SCERTS Model, and Dr. Jacquelyn Fede, an assistant research professor at the University of Rhode Island, will introduce the framework, components, and guiding principles of SCERTS, an acronym for social communication, emotional regulation, transactional support.

Emphasis will be placed on discussing the emotional and energy regulation component of the model. Factors influencing and means of supporting emotional regulation are explored from both a first-person autistic perspective, as well as developmental perspective, according to school officials.
