ASD hosts virtual public meeting May 12 to provide info. about the Lea Hill Elementary replacement project

The Auburn School District hosts a community information night about the Lea Hill Elementary replacement project from 6-7 p.m.May 12 via Zoom.

This project is part of the $456 million Building for Learning bond the ASD community approved in 201 to replace six aging schools and build two new elementary schools.

At the meeting, the district will provide an overview of the project, present architectural drawings and answer questions.

The meeting is open to all, but participants will need to create a free Zoom account to access it via the Zoom link at https://asd408.zoom.us/j/81812124965. Attendees may also participate via telephone at 253 215 8782.

To date, the bond has replaced Olympic Middle School, built in 1957, and Dick Scobee Elementary, built in 1954 and opened as North Auburn Elementary. Still to come are the replacements of Lea Hill Elementary, built in 1965, Chinook Elementary, built in 1963, Pioneer Elementary, built in 1959, and Terminal Park Elementary, built in 1945.

The two new elementary schools are Bowman Creek, which opened in 2020, and the as-yet unnamed Elementary #16 at 13002 SE 304th St. on Lea Hill. The latter is slated to open in the fall of 2021 and serve as the interim site for Lea Hill Elementary during the 21-22 school year when that school is razed and replaced. The two schools will provide increased classroom space. The District selected BLRB Architects to design and administer construction of elementary school #16.

The timeline for completing all of the projects is about eight years.
