Missing boy, 6, with autism and Down syndrome found dead in pond

The New York Daily News - 7/12/2022

A 6-year-old boy with Down syndrome and autism was found dead in a Virginia pond early Monday after being reported missing a day earlier, officials said.

Landon “Waldy” Raber’s body was discovered at about 5:30 a.m. on the property where he disappeared, the Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services agency announced.

The nonprofit AWARE Foundation, which works to spread awareness about missing or endangered people, said Landon was non-verbal and had Down syndrome.

“While this was not the outcome anyone was wanting, or expecting, we’d like to thank everyone who was involved with searching all evening and all night,” the emergency services department said in a statement.

“Please keep the family in your thoughts, and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Landon was reported missing Sunday evening in Buckingham County, which is located in central Virginia.

The county is about 75 miles west of Richmond.
