Lions Club supports Quesnel's award-winning Special Olympians

Quesnel Cariboo Observer - 3/8/2023

The Special Olympics program in Quesnel just got a special boost.

"The Quesnel Lions Club was proud to support the Quesnel Special Olympics team with a cheque for $500 and another $200 to BC Special Olympics," said Lions Club member Christina Pronger.

The latest edition of the B.C. Special Olympics Winter Games took place in Kamloops from Feb. 2-4. About 500 athletes attended from around the province, joining about 1,000 volunteers. Sports represented by Quesnel's contingent were bowling (Robert/Ellen), curling (Trevor, Cheri, Martin, Rick/Dave), snowshoeing (Cory, Glenda, Scott, Greg, Jessica, Aaron, Richard/Shelley). Quesnel brought home the gold in curling, and 16 medals in snowshoe racing.

Quesnel's Special Olympics activities happen year-round, for fun, fitness, fellowship, and getting athletes in top form for the Special Olympics, be they summer or winter editions. Currently, you can find local athletes and coaches involved in sports like snowshoeing, swimming, basketball, floor ringette, and more.

"When you shop at our Quesnel Lion's Club garage sales, the money you spend is donated back to the community," said Pronger. "And likewise, when you donate your items to our garage sale, 100 per cent of the proceeds are donated back to our community. All of our members are volunteers. Thank you, Quesnel, for being a great community."
