This division assists the unemployed and underemployed to become more independent and productive citizens through programs designed to reduce dependency on welfare and promote personal responsibility. Programs include the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKS), Cal Learn, Welfare to Work, Homeless Assistance, and a program for non-custodial parents. Program components include high school equivalency education, English as a Second Language, linkages to community services, job skills training, and an array of job services to aid in locating and retaining employment, childcare, support services to assist with education and employment related activities, and cash assistance. The division also provides Supplemental Security Income advocacy for unemployable' clients, and serves families who have mental health, substance abuse, and domestic abuse barriers. Services include: Cash Aide, CalFresh, Medi-CAL/Health Insurance, and referral information.
