SLED: Former Spartanburg Police officer charged in domestic violence case

Herald-Journal - 11/8/2019

Nov. 8--A former Spartanburg Police Department officer was charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in connection with an assault.

SLED said in a release Friday that Terry Stewart Jr., 25, of 107 Anita Drive, Spartanburg, was charged with third degree domestic violence Thursday.

According to the warrant, the incident occurred in Greer in May during an argument. The warrants indicate Stewart harmed a woman, who sustained visible injuries as a result of the battery.

A statement released by the Spartanburg Police Department indicates Stewart served with the department from Sept. 25, 2015 through May 18, 2019 and was terminated as a result of an internal investigation.

Reports indicate the investigation was requested by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Stewart remains in custody at the Spartanburg County Detention Center. SLED said the case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
