Lubbock man accused of sexually abusing child in 2018 indicted

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - 1/29/2020

A 21-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl multiple times in 2018 was indicted this week by a Lubbock County grand jury.

Dylan Ryan Rodriquez is charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child, a first-degree felony that carries a punishment of five years to life in prison.

He is accused of committing three acts of sexual abusing a girl, who was 7-years-old at the time, on June 6, 2018, according to the indictment.

Rodriquez's charges stem from a Lubbock police investigation that began in August 2018 when an officer responded to Covenant Children's where the girl was getting a sexual assault exam. The girl's mother told the officer that her daughter made an outcry to her accusing Rodriquez of sexually abusing her.

The girl's mother later told a Lubbock police detective that her daughter was getting ready to shower and complained about feeling pain while urinating. She said she inspected her daughter'genitals and her daughter told her that Rodriquez had been abusing her, according to an arrest warrant.

She said she confronted Rodriquez, who denied the allegations. He reportedly told the mother that he was also a victim of sexual abuse.

The girl spoke with a forensic interviewer and said Rodriquez would abuse her when they were alone at the home of a babysitter, who Rodriquez was dating. The warrant states Rodriquez's girlfriend had been babysitting the girl for about two months before the outcry.

During the interview, the girl described multiple acts of sexual abuse she said Rodriquez did to her, the warrant states.

The detective was unable to speak with Rodriquez, who was arrested on Jan. 3 on an unrelated unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge.

He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains. A warrant for the aggravated sexual assault of a child charge was served to him on Jan. 17.

His bail is set at $50,000.
