Former PeaceHealth nurse back in jail after allegedly violating restraining order

Register-Guard - 1/29/2020

The former PeaceHealth nurse accused of sexual abuse is back in the Lane County Jail after allegedly attempting to contact the victim in his case.

Larry Wilt, 56, of Springfield, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly violation of Wilt's release agreement, which states he may not come within a 1-mile radius of where the victim may be.

The motion to revoke Wilt's release states Wilt checked for the victim's vehicle in their workplace parking lot. He then contacted the victim's brother, who also works at the location. Wilt was wearing an ankle monitor since his release from the Lane County Jail, which registered his presence at the location.

Wilt's "appearance at the victim's place of work may have a chilling effect on victim participation and is a form of witness and victim intimidation," the affidavit states.

The motion asks for Wilt to have his release revoked, as well as to raise his bail amount to the original $350,000, something that had been reduced Jan. 10 to $10,000, "which is the amount that Mr. Wilt's family can afford to post to secure his release," the motion read. Wilt was released Jan. 13, under instruction to return to court Wednesday for a pre-trial conference hearing. Instead, the motion to increase his bail, forfeiting the $10,000, was filed.

A hearing on the bail increas and the revoking of his release will be Feb. 4. A Feb. 19 trial has since been canceled in this case. He remains in Lane County Jail on a charge of violating a restraining order.

Wilt is alleged to have had sexual contact with a child between September 2010 and September 2012, and again between September 2015 and September 2016, according to the indictment. Rather than by age, the victim is described as being physically helpless in the second charge.

Wilt was a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend but was placed on leave after he was charged Dec. 23 in Lane County Circuit Court with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. The charge is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of six years, three months per charge.

He later resigned his position from the hospital.
