53-year-old man charged with sexual abuse of child

A 53-year-old man is facing felony charges on suspicion of sexually abusing a child under the age of 14.

Albert Lloyd Wells was arrested by Eugene Police on Wednesday evening and arraigned in Lane County Circuit Court on Thursday.

He faces two felony counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. According to court documents, Wells subjected a child under the age of 14 to sexual contact. The documents state there were two acts of abuse that took place about 17 to 21 years ago.

First-degree sexual abuse is a Measure 11 crime in Oregon. It carries a minimum sentence of six years and three months.

Wells was being held in the Lane County Jail as of Thursday evening. He has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Aug. 20.
