We need solutions on race, police issues, not gasoline

The Daily Herald - 7/19/2020

The first plane hit the tower at 8:46 AM on September 11, 2001, and George Floyd had a knee on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds on May 25, 2020. The world has watched both events and for those that are going to feel sad, they do.

On June 6, The Herald had an article of police abuse on the front page, and the answer to ending police abuse of power in a different article on Page A3. The two should have been reversed. We need solutions, not gasoline.

A painful and embarrassing truth for law enforcement is that it has had to be dragged into the future, and it has done so kicking and yelling, but they did change. Millions have fought for changes that affect all of us. They include crime victims, rape/sex crimes, LGB issues, MADD, Amber alert, and the granddaddy, domestic violence. Regardless of gender, age, race, or wearing a badge, all have benefited from necessary changes.

To law enforcement: You've promised us the best, yet Chauvins, stalkers, and ilk become a criminal with a badge. You can and must fix this by stopping them. To The Herald: Instead of begging for loyalty and money, why don't you start a public service page outlining how people need to interact with law enforcement. And, how about some free press for a group of black people that would never burn down our country or defund the police. These folks and the police need our support.
