Former Tulare County sheriff's sergeant indicted on rape, domestic violence charges

Jul. 21--A former Tulare CountySheriff's Office sergeant has been arraigned on an indictment for charges of rape, domestic violence and other charges.

Richard Ramirez, 46, faces an 11-count indictment by a Tulare County grand jury that includes includes felony rape, spousal rape, three counts of dissuading a witness, two counts of injuring a spouse, stalking, misdemeanor battery, annoying telephone calls, and disobeying a court order.

Ramirez was arrested in September 2019 on suspicion of domestic violence. The crimes allegedly occurred between October 2008 and July 2020 in Tulare County against two victims.

Following his arraignment, Ramirez was taken into custody on no bail.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 15 in Department 14 in Visalia.
