Register-Guard - 7/23/2020

Eugene police arrested and charged a man Wednesday with raping a child.

Eugene police began investigating the sexual abuse of a child on June 30, said police spokesman John Hankemeier. They arrested the 55-year-old suspect Wednesday.

The suspect knew the child, Hankemeier said.

He was jailed on charges of two Measure 11 crimes: first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, a crime in Oregon law associated with sexual contact with minors. If convicted, the minimum sentences for the charges are eight years, four months and six years, three months, respectively.
