Parents of 2-year-old Madera boy who was missing charged with murder, child abuse

Jul. 29--The parents of a 2-year-old Madera boy, whose body was believed to have been found last week by police, have been charged with murder and felony child abuse.

Madera District Attorney Sally Moreno confirmed Briseida G. Sran and Sukhjinder Sran were charged with murder and Adam's law violations involving felony child abuse against their son, Thaddeus Sran. Adam's law, which was inspired by a Fresno boy in 2015, increases sentences for those convicted in child abuse cases.

The parents were arraigned Tuesday.

Thaddeus was reported missing July 15 and Madera police and other agencies searched the area for a week. Last Thursday, police said they had found burned remains that they believed to the boy. The parents were arrested Friday morning on suspicion of murder.

The child last was seen alive late July 14 at a home in the 800 block of C Street in Madera, police said.

Briseida G. Sran was cleared from an investigation into a 2015 death of an infant daughter, her attorney Roger T. Nuttall, who also represented her in 2015 case, told The Bee. The girl, like Thaddeus, was born premature and had medical needs.

No charges were filed in the 2015 case, Nuttall said.

A government source in Madera, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the case, said the Sran family was also investigated in 2019 in connection to Thaddeus. The case was closed in January and Thaddeus was allowed to remain with his parents, the source confirmed.
