Serial Eugene-area sex offender sentenced to life in prison

Register-Guard - 11/23/2020

A repeat sex offender was sentenced in Lane County Circuit Court to life in prison Friday for multiple instances of public indecency on a city bus.

Michael Dale Cambron, 70, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony public indecency in October related to an incident when Cambron followed "a teenage girl onto two different public buses and masturbating while staring at her from across the aisle on each bus," the release from Lane County District Attorney Patty Perlow stated.

Cambron has an extensive criminal record, with eight previous felony sex crime convictions dating back to 1989, court records show.

He has two prior convictions for first-degree sex abuse and six prior convictions for felony public indecency, all in Lane County.

"In each of the above-described public indecency cases, the factual bases were that (Cambron) was caught masturbating in parks and libraries around Eugene while directing his attention at nearby children and/or young women," the sentencing documents state.

In April this year, he was released to post-prison supervision after serving a 60-month sentence for a conviction in 2016, when he was caught masturbating on two different park benches next to a woman and a child.

On May 13, just over a month of being let out on post-prison supervision, he followed the girl onto the bus, which prompted this latest case.
