Convicted sex offender busted for raping woman on NYC’s Wards Island

The New York Daily News - 6/18/2021

A convicted sex offender was arrested for brutally raping a 61-year-old woman on Wards Island, police said.

William Manning, 35, was charged with rape, sex abuse and drug possession for the Wednesday afternoon attack. Manning lives at a psychiatric center on the island, cops said.

Police first spotted his victim walking out of the park around 4 p.m. with bloodied shirt torn in half and a bruised face.

When cops asked her what happened, she claimed Manning raped her. The sex offender met his victim at the psychiatric center, said police.

Manning’s arraignment was pending in Manhattan Criminal Court Friday evening.

His name was added to the state’s sex offender registery after he was convicted of assaulting, choking and sexually abusing a 22-year-old woman in 2015.

Manning was released in 2019 after serving four years in prison. He remains on parole until 2024, public records show.
