Sacramento-area school teacher accused of child sex abuse with students at his home

Sacramento Bee - 7/20/2022

A Sacramento County middle school teacher is accused of child sexual abuse and providing alcohol, marijuana, pornography and sex toys for his students, sheriff’s officials said.

Glenn Alejandrino, 49, turned himself in Tuesday at the Main Jail downtown after detectives and his attorney arranged for his surrender on an arrest warrant, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday in a news release.

Alejandrino has worked as a teacher for the San Juan Unified School District since 1996, sheriff’s officials said. He has worked at Arden Middle School since 2013, where he taught eighth grade leadership and government classes, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“While we cannot provide additional details related to this ongoing investigation, we can confirm that the teacher was out on leave for the majority of the 2021-22 school year,” Arden Middle School Principal Stephanie Malia said in a written statement posted on the school’s website Wednesday. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities on this matter.”

The principal said students may need extra support or someone to talk to after hearing news of the teacher’s arrest and the allegations. Malia said support for students is available through the school district, including the CareSolace referral service at www.sanjuan.edu/gethelp.

“Please know that San Juan Unified will continue to do everything we can to provide a safe learning environment for all students,” Malia said in the statement.

The middle school and San Juan Unified School District did not release any further details about Alejandrino’s current status of employment or make any other comments about his arrest.

Sheriff’s officials said Alejandrino was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony counts that include lewd or lascivious acts with a child younger than 14 years old, lewd act on a child with a victim more than 10 years younger than the teacher, communicating with a minor with intent to commit a sex offense, furnishing marijuana to a minor younger than 14, contributing to the delinquency of minor and molesting a child younger than 18.

The alleged crimes occurred from 2019 through 2021, and Alejandrino is accused of providing his students with alcohol, marijuana, pornography and sex toys, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said the detectives believe the alleged crimes occurred at Alejandrino’s home, and the victims were there with their parents’ knowledge and consent.

Alejandrino worked in early childhood education from 1996 through 1998 and as a sixth grade teacher at Cowan Elementary School from 1999 through 2012, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He transferred to Arden Middle School in 2013.

Alejandrino was released from the Sacramento County Jail after posting a $350,000 bail bond, sheriff’s officials said. He was scheduled to appear Wednesday in Sacramento Superior Court for his arraignment hearing. Details about his first court appearance and his next court date were not available.
