Plains Twp. woman again arrested for accusing law enforcement of sex assault

The Citizens' Voice - 3/11/2023

Mar. 11—A woman previously convicted of falsely accusing two Pennsylvania State Police troopers of sexual assault is now charged with providing false information in protection from abuse applications she filed against two other men.

Christine Cromer, 42, of Plains Twp., is charged with multiple counts of unsworn falsification and harassment.

Luzerne County detectives say Cromer — who was sentenced to serve up to 23 months in prison for her previous lies — claims she was sexually assaulted in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and the suspect later sexually assaulted her at a private residence in Plains Twp., according to a criminal complaint filed.

Police said Cromer provided dates of the alleged instances and investigators were able to prove different whereabouts of the man at those times.

In another instance, police said Cromer filed a protection from abuse application accusing an officer at the Lackawanna County Correctional Facility of sexually assaulting her multiple times.

Judges in both cases denied the temporary PFA and set up a PFA hearing.

In the Luzerne County case, Cromer skipped the PFA hearing and the filing was dropped, police said.

While being questioned about the Lackawanna County allegations, Cromer denied the allegations and said nothing physical happened between the two, police said.

In both instances, police said Cromer referenced her husband, Donald, an alleged Outlaws Motorcycle Gang member who was jailed in 2019 for meth dealing and for chaining Cromer to a radiator.

Cromer told police her husband had video of her driving around with the Luzerne County prison employee.

After filing the PFA, she told investigators that her husband wanted to kill the Lackawanna County employee and wanted her to file police complaints, but she "wasn't filing something that isn't true."

Donald Cromer told prison investigators that his wife was reluctant to come forward because of her previous treatment following allegations she made against the state police.

Cromer first claimed Trooper Robert Covington, a Bureau of Gaming Enforcement officer, raped her outside Mohegan Sun Pocono, where she worked as a cocktail waitress. She then altered her story and leveled nearly the exact same allegations against state police internal affairs Sgt. Daniel Jones, who had interviewed Cromer for two hours as the lead investigator in the case against Covington.

Prosecutors alleged Cromer fabricated the rape allegations to retaliate on behalf of her husband, who had been kicked out of Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Cromer was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer, who released Cromer on $7,500 unsecured bail.
