Man gets probation after attacking Merrillville woman and toddler

Nov. 28—A man was sentenced to 18 months probation Oct. 26 after admitting to attacking a woman and toddler, court records show.
Trevion Lee, then 24, was charged in September with three counts of domestic battery, one count each of strangulation, criminal confinement, intimidation, and three misdemeanors.
He signed a plea deal filed on Oct. 26 for domestic battery, a Level 6 felony. He is listed as homeless, according to court records.
Merrillville Police were called at 8:26 p.m.Sept. 14 to an apartment building on the 8400 block of Polo Club Drive for a domestic battery report. The woman, 26, flagged officers down in front of the building.
She let Lee visit them earlier, because it was his birthday, she said. He gave the child a bath and was getting her ready for bed when the woman told him he was being too rough with her.
She asked him to stop, according to court records. The woman grabbed the girl and went to her bedroom. Lee came in, smacked her cell phone out of the woman's hand and punched her in her chest. That punch hit the girl in her nose, court records state.
He pulled the woman on the floor by her hair, climbed on her and put his hands around her throat, then slammed her head into the wall two or three times.
"I'm going to kill you, (expletive)," he said, according to court records.
He loosened his grip.
The girl was on the bed and crying. Lee started to apologize. The woman grabbed the child and ran out of the apartment. Lee, who had her phone, followed her and she managed to get in the car and drive to the leasing office.
Cops arrested Lee walking near U.S. 30 and Lincoln Street in a black sweatshirt and PlayStation T-shirt. He said he had a "bad day" and just came from his girlfriend, who broke up with him on his birthday.
Investigators saw a cut on the child's nose and redness and scratches on the woman's neck.
