Lancaster County man waives preliminary hearing on multiple rape charges

Patriot-News - 4/24/2024

A 59-year-old Lancaster County man charged with 18 offenses including rape, incest and aggravated indecent assault waived his preliminary hearing last week, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Amos Ebersol, of Ephrata, was charged by the Ephrata Borough Police Department on March 20. Officers started an investigation in October 2022 after a children and youth report said Ebersol inappropriately touched a juvenile he is related to, according to a press release.

After investigators spoke with the victim, three additional victims came forward saying they were subjected to repeated abuse from Ebersol, police said.

Ebersol is charged with three counts each of the following offenses: rape by forcible compulsion, incest, aggravated indecent assault, contact/communication with a minor – sexual offenses, corruption of minors and aggravated indecent assault – forcible compulsion, online court documents said.

District Attorney Steve Sess is prosecuting the case and Ephrata Borough Police Detective Beth Rivera filed the charges.

Ebersol is scheduled to be arraigned on May 10.
