Discover:Kenx (pronounced "connects") is a keyboard interface designed to enable individuals with upper extremity, severe physical, or cognitive disabilities to access a computer using a choice of methods other than a standard keyboard. This device plugs directly into the keyboard port and enables customization for multiple users; the system remembers user preferences and automatically selects the appropriate set-ups. For example, one or two switches can be connected for scanning access, Key Largo (see separate entry) can be connected for alternative keyboard access, and a joystick or other mouse alternative can be connected for use with an onscreen keyboard.The system includes the intergace box; cable; software set-ups for all access methods; speech output with a choice of voices to meet the user's auditory processing needs; a graphics library and recorded sounds in male and female voices for set-up customization; five moisture-proof overlays; and Discover:Create for set-up customization. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh or IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires Macintosh Operating System 7.5.3 or higher, a 68030 processor or better, an ADB port or iMate adapter, CD-ROM drive,a minimum of eight megabytes (MB) RAM, and a minimum of 10 MB hard drive space. The Windows version requires a Pentium or better processor, Windows 95 or higher, CD-ROM drive, Sound Blaster or compatible sound card, a minimum of 16 MB RAM, and a minimum of 42 MB hard drive space.
