New Haven baby has timing: Arrival comes on day his mom is elected

Nov. 7--NEW HAVEN -- Ellen Cupo, who won an uncontested seat on the Board of Alders in Ward 8 Tuesday as a Democrat, gave birth to her first child on Election Day.

Hunter Ian Cupo Dunn was born Nov. 5 at Yale New Haven Hospital. At the time of his birth he weighed 7 pounds and 2 ounces and was 20.25 inches tall.

"I want to shout out my incredibly caring and professional group of providers at the St. Raphael's Vidone Birthing Center and the Center for Women's Health and Midwifery. What an exceptional team to share in this experience with," Cupo said in an email Wednesday.

Both Cupo and husband Ian Dunn are labor organizers. Cupo is a senior administrative assistant at Yale University'sDepartment of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Dunn does communications for Yale's unions.

Cupo is the first candidate to be elected in Ward 8 since three-term alder Aaron Greenberg left the Elm City in April for a job in California.
