Center for Family Services: Emotional support for all ages

Palm Beach Post - 11/12/2020

What does Center for Family Services do?

CFS provides various affordable services and programs to meet the mental health needs of their clients. The Center serves a diverse population from throughout the county. They ensure that clients, even those who are uninsured or underinsured, receive the help they need to heal from trauma.

Therapists receive expert training in various specialty areas to provide care by approaching clients with compassion, knowledge, and skill. One recent client said, "This place is doing God's work on a daily basis. I credit them with saving my life two times now. They are so kind, attentive, and thorough … Let them help you."

How does the agency affect the community?

Although anyone can be affected by mental health issues, adverse socio-economic conditions increase stressors, which lead to depression, anxiety, marital issues, substance use/abuse, physical abuse, and other trauma. The programs provide treatment and resources to develop strong social relationships, improve coping skills, lead more satisfying, productive lives and gain knowledge that builds on their client's strengths. The Center provides high quality, accessible, and affordable treatment options in English, Spanish, and Creole for those who need to heal.

What is the agency's focus for 2020-2021?

There has been a significant increase in mental health issues, domestic abuse, and substance abuse since the pandemic began. To deal with the long-term impact of COVID-19, there is a need to expand the accessibility of services. The vision for 2020-2021 is to increase funds that allow CFS programs to expand the number and length of services in order to meet the community's growing mental health needs.

How can the community help?

Donations of time, talent, and treasure are welcome. Monetary contributions are most needed to keep all eight programs strong! Also, CFS needs donations of new and gently used designer handbags and volunteers for their signature fundraising event, Old Bags Luncheon, on March 12, 2021. Our website lists much needed items, such as diapers and baby formula. As CFS clients become more empowered, their families and the community are also strengthened. Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County recognizes that it takes a village to make a meaningful change. The changes the Center makes in strengthening families can only happen with the community's support.

During the month of November, CFS is running an Ab-YOU-se Campaign highlighting our S.A.F.E Kids program and is asking for your support. CFS has specialized therapists who work with childhood survivors of sexual abuse, physical abuse, human trafficking, and other violent crimes. Those wishing to donate or to learn more about the services provided may call 561-616-1222 or visit www.ctrfam.org.
