Church to provide holiday food, toys for families in need

Nov. 16--Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and its social service outreach ministry Brother's Keeper are once again helping families for the upcoming holidays.

The entities are teaming up with Toys for Tots to give toys to children.

Holiday sign-ups will run through Dec. 4 on Mondays and Fridays from 9-11:30 a.m., and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The last day for Thanksgiving food applications is Nov. 20, said organizers with Blessed Trinity.

Those eligible to receive food on Thanksgiving and Christmas must be a family with at least one child under 18 and live in Marion County. To be eligible for Christmas toys, applicants must be families with at least a child under 12 living in the following zip codes: 34470, 34473, 34474, 34475, 34476, 34477, 34478 and 34479.

Officials said applicants need to provide a photo identification with a Marion County address, Social Security cards for adults and children, birth certificates for the children, a lease and utility bill for proof of residency, and zip code and proof of food stamps.

The pickup dates for Thanksgiving is Nov. 24, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. For Christmas, its Dec. 16 or 17, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The location for collection will be the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1510 SE Third Ave, in Ocala, which is at the north end of the Blessed Trinity parking lot.
