Local Child Care Providers Honored at Centralia City Hall

The Chronicle - 5/27/2023

May 26—With National Child Care Provider Day recently observed on May 12, Centralia Mayor Pro-Tem Cameron McGee on Tuesday read a proclamation declaring the date as Child Care Appreciation Day in the city.

McGee said that, especially over the past few years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for child care has only become more vital to communities throughout the country, including Centralia. The proclamation was read during the regular council meeting on Tuesday.

"Child care programs, which are mostly small businesses run and staffed predominantly by women, are still recovering from health and financial hardships stemming from the pandemic while they have to continue to meet the needs of families," McGee said.

He urged Centralians to join him in showing appreciation to the city's child care providers, three of whom were represented and honored Tuesday night, including Barbara Stark of A Joyful Noise Childcare Center, Rochelle Wagner of the Harrison Square Presbyterian Church and Holly Renner of the Gather & Grow Daycare.

A Joyful Noise Childcare Center is located in the Harrison Square Presbyterian Church on 1227 Harrison Ave. in Centralia, while Gather & Grow Daycare is located on 104 S. Rock St. in Centralia.
