Addiction treatment announcement coming for Red Deer

Red Deer Advocate - 7/18/2020

Premier Jason Kenney will be at City Hall Park on Saturday to announce new addiction and mental health treatment options coming to the city.

Earlier this week, the province said it will spend $25 million to support the construction of five long-term residential treatment centres that will add 400 treatment beds to Alberta.

These so-called recovery communities will focus on the whole person and overall lifestyle changes, not just abstinence from drug use.

Construction is part of more than $10 billion in infrastructure spending announced as part of Alberta's recovery plan.

About 400 people will be employed during the construction of the recovery centres. Once they are operational, each centre will employ 35 to 50 people.

Other participants at the 11:30 a.m. announcement in Red Deer include Jason Luan, the associate minister of mental health, as well as local MLAs and the city's mayor.
