UTEP's Nov. 20 opponent, UAB, postpones game for COVID

El Paso Times - 11/13/2020

UTEP just lost another football game off its schedule.

UAB, dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, will not travel to Midland for a Nov. 20 game against the Miners, which is now officially cancelled. Assuming UTEP plays UTSA Saturday, which is still on, the UAB game will be the fourth postponement or cancellation in a six-week period.

UAB also postponed its Saturday game with North Texas because of positive COVID-19 tests and contact-tracing quarantines, though that game could be made up.

Both of UTEP's make-up dates, Dec. 4 against Southern Miss and Dec. 12 against North Texas, are already filled. Those games are scheduled for the Sun Bowl, with presumably Midland being the alternate site.

"While we are disappointed that we won't be able to play, we understand and support UAB's decision to cancel the game," UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. "The safety of their student-athletes and staff is the top priority. We wish everyone a quick recovery, and hope the Blazers will be able to resume their season soon."

UTEP is now looking at a 10-game schedule and an eight-game Conference USA schedule, if every other game is played.
