Open letter to SJ supervisors: County’s ban on vaccine proof-of-entry puts public at risk

Record - 10/18/2021

Dear San Joaquin County supervisors,

Your support and passage of a ban on mandates for COVID-19 vaccine requirements is irresponsible and endangers everyone's health during this pandemic. Your action must be repealed immediately.

Supervisor Patti was quoted as saying, "We have other counties keeping their eyes on us today to see what we are doing." You enacted this ban immediately after hearing Public Health Care Services Director Greg Diederich tell you that San Joaquin County continues to have a high COVID-19 transmission rate. I'm sure that the other counties are keeping their eyes on the San Joaquin County board's idiotic political stunt that ignores public health science.

No one likes government mandates, but sometimes they are necessary to protect us. We all want to protect and defend the viability of businesses. If you'd get serious about controlling the spread of COVID-19, we'd have a better chance of getting over this pandemic quickly and life getting back to normal. If you want to be an example, be a GOOD example. Listen to the qualified professionals. Protect the public health like you swore to do when you took office.

With great concern,

Tim Fedorchak, Lodi
