Pennsylvania not among ‘most fun’ states for seniors: study

Patriot-News - 5/22/2023

Just because people get older doesn’t mean they stop having fun.

But Pennsylvania, unfortunately, isn’t among the “most fun” states for seniors.

Seniorly is a platform that boasts itself as the “Largest online directory of senior living communities” which seeks “to help ever older adult and their family find the right senior living community.” As such, Seniorly decided to conduct and publish a study that found which states allow for the elderly to get their kicks.

In order to do this, Seniorly researchers graded all 50 states plus Washington D.C. across 11 senior-related metrics: “Community;” “Overall health;” “Mental health;” “Loneliness;” “Affordability;” “Weather;” “Parks;” “Family visits;” “Restaurants and bars;” “Golf;” and “Pickleball.”

Researchers also leveraged data from sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to finalize scores.

At the end of it all, Pennsylvania ranked 27th overall on the list, placing it in the study’s lower half percentile among the “least fun” states for those 65 and older.

Which, then, were the most fun? Those would be Montana (third), Minnesota (second), and Florida (first).

“According to our metrics, Florida ranks as the most fun state for seniors,” the study explains. “While it has a slightly higher cost of living than the national average (as reported in our previous study), the year-round warm weather, many beaches, parks and golf courses more than make up for it.”

The state that the way bottom of the list was Kentucky.
