New commanding officer takes over Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station

Jul. 13--Col. Carl J. Magnusson, a 29-year Air Force veteran, took command of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and the 914th Air Refueling Wing during a ceremony Sunday.

Magnusson succeeds Col. Mark Larson, who retired in May. The 914th flies eight KC-135 Stratotankers, which are planes used to refuel other aircraft in flight.

Magnusson's last assignment was as chief of the Plans Division at Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He is qualified as a KC-135 pilot.

The 914th, an Air Force Reserve wing, is the primary unit on the Niagara Falls base, which also hosts the 107th Attack Wing of the New York Air National Guard and some Army National Guard and Army Reserve units. About 3,000 people work at the base, counting full- and part-time personnel, both military and civilian, as well as contractors.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Pennington, commander of the Fourth Air Force, presided over Sunday's ceremony.
