Military Hero spreads unity across Arkansas carrying flag

Pine Bluff Commercial - 7/31/2020

Jul. 30--When the coronavirus first began it sent a damper through the nation. Once Arkansas recorded its first case in March and numbers continued to rise on a daily basis, Army Veteran Nathaniel Thomas knew he had to do something to encourage Arkansans.

"It was laid on my heart to uplift God's people," said Thomas.

Thomas began his 'Run for America Tour' across the state of Arkansas to encourage Arkansans during the Coronavirus pandemic.

He started in his hometown of Forrest City and has made his way through Pine Bluff, West Memphis, El Dorado, Monticello, Helena, Hot Springs, Little Rock, Malvern, Arkadelphia, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Cabot, Russellville, Conway and Stuttgart.

With old glory flying by his side, Thomas plans to hit all towns, big and small, to deliver his wake up call message, 'Keep fighting the good fight and know that we will get through this.'

With his tour almost surpassing four months, Thomas is a noticeable icon in Arkansas. Drivers are seen pulling over to take his photo with some even getting a chance to meet him at the end or beginning of his 10-mile run.

"Every vehicle that comes by, they will get this great military salute and ole glory will be hanging high for them," said Thomas. "When you hear all the honking and blowing you'll know well there's ole glory passing by uplifting the community."

Not slowing down anytime soon, Thomas said he is doing this for our country and for everything that Americans go through.

"The United States will lift up and stay strong," said Thomas. "We're a great country."

If you want to know where Thomas may show up next, he said to follow his Facebook page at Mount Sanai.

He has made surprise visits to cities twice just to see if they were still uplifted and spirits were high.

"When I come through these towns again I need to see everyone uplifted," said Thomas. "I need to hear those horns blowing and people waving with smiles on their faces.

As Thomas took off in the breeze with the United States flag waving in the wind, he saluted with these words--"Stay encouraged. We are the United States."
