Former Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell to speak at LCU veterans event

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - 11/7/2020

Lubbock Christian University will feature former U.S. Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell for a special veterans event scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in the McDonald Moody Auditorium on the university campus.

Luttrell's message will draw from his personal experiences facing adversity as a Navy SEAL.

All U.S. military veterans are welcome to this special event held during the week of Veteran's Day to honor and recognize local veterans. The event will also be streamed live at LCU.edu/Live and on the Lubbock Christian University Facebook page, according to a news release from the school.

Luttrell served eight years as an enlisted Navy SEAL, then attended Officer Candidate School and became a commissioned officer serving a total of 14 years with Naval Special Warfare, medically retiring as a lieutenant. He is also the twin brother to Marcus Luttrell, who authored the book "Lone Survivor", adapted to film in 2013.

After his service, Luttrell pursued an advanced degree in applied cognition and neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas, graduating with honors. While in his studies, Luttrell created a health and wellness treatment program for injured veterans. Knowing firsthand through his battles with Traumatic Brain Injury, Luttrell had a passion for helping others and giving service members the opportunity for a comprehensive, holistic, and individualized care program for TBI, Post Traumatic Stress, chronic pain, addiction, and insomnia.

The special Veteran's celebration is open to the public, and guests may attend in person, through a live stream at LCU.edu/live, or on Facebook.

“In a time when many individuals are experiencing adversity in one form or another, we are grateful to be able to bring Morgan Luttrell to Lubbock. His life-story of bravely overcoming adversity is one that will inspire all of us,” said LCU President, Dr. Scott McDowell. “We feel privileged through this event to have the chance to recognize and honor veterans who have served our country through their military careers. We treasure the opportunity to return the favor and serve our veterans by providing a quality education.”

For those who are attending the in-person event, social distancing and masks are required.
